Missouri High School Notebook: McCluer North Sends Porter, Kuper, 400 Freestyle Relay To State Boys Swimming

Two individual swimmers and a relay team from McCluer North High School are qualified to compete Nov. 12, 3 p.m. at the Missouri State High School Boys Swimming Championships at the St. Peters Rec-Plex after all met the state qualifying standards Nov. 4 in the Suburban North Conference championships at Bridgeton Recreation Center, a meet in which McCluer North won the team title.

Senior Ryan Porter will compete in the 100-yard Freestyle with a winning 50.09-second effort at the Suburban North meet. Freshman Nick Kuper followed Porter with a 5:07.69 effort in the 500-yard Freestyle win that will send him to state. And the Stars will send the 400-yard freestyle relay team, who wrapped up a conference meet title with 329 points, after a winning 3:29.54 effort.

The top 16 swimmers in each of the 11 swim events will advance to the final round Nov. 13, 3 p.m. Meanwhile Hazelwood Central junior Diver B.J. McLaughlin will compete in the one-meter event Nov. 13, 9:30 a.m., at the Rec-Plex after qualifying with a 242.70-point effort in a Sept. 29 meet against Ritenour.

BOYS SOCCER — WEST, TRINITY, LUTHERAN NORTH WIN DISTRICTS — Hazelwood West won Class Three, District Seven Boys Soccer Nov. 2-4 at the Florissant Civic Center with wins over McCluer, 6-0, and Hazelwood Central, 2-0. Trinity Catholic won Class Two, District Four at home Nov. 2-3 defeating Miller Career Academy, 10-0, and Gateway Tech, 9-0. Lutheran North won Class One, District Three at home Nov. 1-3 defeating Metro-McKinley Classical Leadership, 5-0, and over Crossroads, 3-1.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL — NCCS WINS MO CHRISTIAN STATE TITLE — North County Christian School won the Missouri Christian State Athletic Association championship, Oct. 20-23 in Joplin. NCCS won the last 15 matches in a row and finished 30-3. NCCS, in the Missouri Christian State Meet, defeated Christian Academy of Greater St. Louis, Tri-City Christian, Blue Ridge Christian, Christian Fellowship and Tower Grove Christian  in two sets each and an unnamed opponent in three sets.

IWA FOURTH IN MSHSAA CLASS FOUR — Incarnate Word Academy took fourth place in MSHSAA Class Four State Volleyball, Nov. 5-6 in Kansas City. IWA (29-10-2) lost to Lee’s Summit West in two sets, tied eventual State Champion St. Joseph’s Academy 1-1 and against Ozark the Red Knights tied 1-1 in round-robin play and lost in three sets in the third-place match.

CROSS COUNTRY-STATE-Lutheran North senior Anna Rathje was the only North County medallist in State Cross Country, Nov. 6 in Jefferson City by taking 19th (20:55.62) in Girls Class Two. The highest boys finisher was McCluer North sophomore Nicolas Stewart, who finished 32nd in Class Four.
