Hazelwood West Middle School Students Win Essay Contest

Walmart® and KidSmart© selected two Hazelwood West Middle School students as winners of a St. Louis area essay contest. The students won $100 gift cards for their entries.

Hanna Orrick and Nadi Prasad, who are in seventh-grade, were two of 100 area-wide winners. They submitted 100-word essays via Walmart’s website that explained how their school helps them accomplish their goals.

“I wrote that school helps you because you have more opportunities in your life than if you did not go to school,” Prasad said.

“I wrote about how I wanted to be a counselor when I get older and how the different school subjects would help me achieve that goal,” Orrick said.

The girls have similar career aims.

“I really want to be a social worker,” Prasad said. “I like helping people with their problems. I don’t like to see a problem and not fix it.”

Nadi’s mother, Tracy Ann Prasad, said the girls learned about the contest through their Girl Scout Neighborhood Co-chair, Christy Wall. Both girls said they used the gift cards to purchase school supplies and some new clothes.
