The Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Parents as Teachers program continues to provide the same high-quality services it always has despite state budget cuts. There is room for all families to enroll in PAT.
Parents as Teachers is a free program provided by the school district for families who live in their district. PAT is a parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5. In the first few years, children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life. Parents shape their children’s futures through the kinds of experiences they provide.
Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how and why advice for families. By understanding what to expect during each stage of development, parents can capture the teachable moments to enhance their child’s language and social development, intellectual growth and physical skills.
Parent educators share age-appropriate child development and parenting information and age appropriate activities during personalized visits. They also help parents learn to observe their child’s development and answer parenting questions. Educators give each child a developmental screening, as well as health, hearing, vision and dental functional screenings yearly.
Opportunities for parent-child group activities and networking are also included. Call Parents as Teachers, 314-506-9066, to enroll.
