Hundreds of residents showed up at several block parties held throughout the City of Hazelwood for this year’s Safe City Celebration held on Sept. 28.  Not only did they enjoy socializing with their neighbors and friends, but they  sampled all the great food that everyone prepared.

In addition, Hazelwood Police Chief Carl Wolf, along with  other City police officers and firefighters, handed out Halloween goodie bags to all the children as well as glow-in-the-dark necklaces.

The Hazelwood Police Department spearheaded this crime prevention program in partnership with the National Crime Prevention Council, Hazelwood Neighborhood Watch, Hazelwood Fire Department, and both the Robertson and Florissant Valley Fire Districts.  It was part of a national “Celebrate Safe Communities” initiative designed to help educate the public about the need for year-round support from residents, businesses, law enforcement and city government to keep neighborhoods safe from crime.  Neighbors were given an opportunity to meet and greet each other, as well as acquaint themselves with police officers who patrol their area on a regular basis.
