Hazelwood West, Lutheran North Hosting District Girls Tennis

Hazelwood West High School and Lutheran High School North — with matches at Forestwood Park, Ferguson — are two of 32 high schools to host Girls District Tennis, beginning Sept. 25 with team tournaments followed by singles and doubles tournaments on Sept. 28-30.

Hazelwood West hosts Class Two, District Six with Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer High and the likely top seed McCluer North. Third seeded Lutheran North hosts Class One, District Five with top-seeded Incarnate Word Academy, Clayton, North Tech, University City and McCluer South-Berkeley.

Team Dual Meet competition consists of three doubles matches followed by six singles matches and the firs team to win five matches advances. Doubles matches are Doubles-8 pro set with ad scoring with tiebreaker at 8-8 while singles play is best of three sets with no ad scoring. As of 11:59 p.m., Sept. 18, team seeding from Class Two, District Six and pairings from both districts were not available.

Team District champions advance to four-team sectionals Oct.7. In the case of the two mentioned districts, District Eight winners host the sectionals (District Eight versus District Five and District Six versus District Seven). Sectional winners advance to state Oct. 12 at Cooper Tennis Complex, Springfield.

In Singles and Doubles, held at sites of district hosts, each school can send two singles players and two doubles teams but no player can compete in both. Each match is best of three sets, no ad scoring in the firs two rounds, ad scoring in semifinals and finals.

The top two singles players and top two doubles teams advance to Sectional play Oct. 2-4 hosted by Lutheran North (Class One) and Parkway North (Class Two). Sectional winners go to State at Cooper Complex, Oct. 13-14.

CLASS TWO GIRLS GOLF –On Sept. 25, McCluer North is in District Three at Links at Dardenne, O’Fallon, while Incarnate Word Academy will be in District Two at Crescent Golf Club, Eureka. The top two district teams and golfers from other teams that finish in the top 15 advance to Class Two Sectionals Oct. 2 at courses to be decided. The top two sectional team finishes and golfers from other teams in the top 12 advance to state, Oct. 9-10 at Sedalia Country Club. Teams that finish lower than second in districts and/or sectionals but send at least four to sectionals and/or state qualify in team sectionals and/or state.
