Florissant to Get $450,000 Federal Stimulas Grant For Roof at Ice Rink


Florissant Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. has announced that the City of Florissant will receive $452,200.00 through the Department of Energy in conjunction with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 (Federal Stimulus Package).

The city submitted a grant application to the federal government for a new integrated solar paneled roof for the ice rink.  This recent grant approval of stimulus package funding though the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency Community Block Grant program allows the City to ,one, fix an aging roof at the civic center’s ice rink while, two, incorporating energy efficient methods for reducing future electricity bills.  Once

completed, the integrated solar paneled roof will allow all the facilities at the ice rink and some components of the adjacent larger civic center to be run purely on solar energy.

Lowery stated “this grant approval comes on the heels of a very successful 2009 year in which the city was awarded over $6.6 million in federal reimbursement money for six approved projects to be implemented in 2010.”  Lowery  added that Florissant is applying for all applicable ARRA grant applications.

Mayor Lowery said he and his staff worked hard with Congressman Lacy Clay and his representatives to continuously bring more federal dollars to the City of Florissant.  Construction should begin by summer 2010.
