Carol Stroker Resigns from Hazelwood School Board to Run For City Council

Carol Stroker, a director on the Hazelwood Board of Education for more than five years, announced her resignation from the board during the Nov. 24th board meeting. She is planning to run for the Hazelwood City Council.

“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to resign to pursue another elected position with a different organization,” she said. “Because I have thoroughly enjoyed my colleagues on the board, the administration, HSD staff members, community members and students, this was a very difficult decision for me to make. However, I would like to use my experiences in public service to help a different agency.”

After the board accepted Stroker’s resignation, board president Mark Behlmann  announced that the board will fill the vacancy as soon as possible to ensure the new director can participate in interviews for the new superintendent, which will begin in December. He announced that the following “Notice of Vacancy” has been posted:

The Hazelwood School District Board of Education announces a director vacancy on the board. People wanting to apply for this vacancy should submit a resume to the secretary of the board by 5 p.m. on Dec. 9. The secretary, Angie Korte, is located in the HSD Learning Center at 15955 New Halls Ferry Road, Florissant, MO 63031.  The new director will fill the vacancy until the April, 2010 election. Interviews for interested candidates will take place on December 13, 2009.

The HSD Board of Education expects the person selected will run for election in April. In addition, the Board of Education will expect the new director to attend the board  meetings and the superintendent search meetings, plus other meetings and events.
