IWA, LHSN Dominate Fall Districts

Incarnate Word Academy and Lutheran High School North combined won the most district titles among North County high school during the fall of 2017.
Incarnate Word Academy won four district titles among the five girls fall sports while Lutheran North won two district titles. IWA won Class One, District Five Tennis, Class Three, District Six Softball and Volleyball, and Class Three, District Four Cross Country. Lutheran North won Class Two, District Two Football and Class Two, District Five Girls Volleyball.
IWA Volleyball got to the Class One Quarterfinals before losing to eventual third-place finisher Mary Institute Country Day School. District Doubles team champions Maria Brandt and Elizabeth Goldstein was second in state to the John Burroughs Doubles team of Lily Walther and Ainsley Heidbreder.
IWA Softball won the Metro Women’s Athletic Association title (4-0) and got to state for the third time but finished fourth. IWA Volleyball, winners of 11 state titles but none since 2005, made their 25th state appearance but ended up in fourth place. IWA Cross Country, with Class Three, District Four runner up Brooke Fredrickson, finished 15th out of 16 teams in state. IWA Golf finished sixth in Class Two, District Two while Ashley Fite qualified for Sectional One and State.
Lutheran North won the Metro League Football title and edged Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division Champion Trinity Catholic 48-46 in the Class Two, District Two Final before losing 7-6 in the State Semifinal to eventual seven-peat champion Lamar. Lutheran North Volleyball ended a three-year title run of Trinity in the Class Two, District Five final before losing in the Sectional to eventual state third-place finisher Hermann.
SUBURBAN XII NORTH — Hazelwood West Softball won the Suburban XII Conference North Division and Class Four, District Six titles before losing to Francis Howell North and the Wildcats finished with a 20-2 record. McCluer North Girls Tennis won the Suburban XII North and Class Two, District Six team titles, each in two consecutive years, before losing in the Sectionals to Lake St. Louis-based Liberty High. In addition, McCluer North had district winners in singles player Saniah Jamielah Savala and the doubles team of Scarlett Madrid and Kelsey Gallagher.
Hazelwood West Boys Soccer won their fourth consecutive Suburban XII North title but was second in Class Four, District Three to Pattonville for the second consecutive year. Hazelwood Central has six consecutive conference Football titles, winning four in the Suburban XII North after wining the last two in the former Suburban North Conference, but lost the Class Six, District Two title four years in a row to CBC, State Champions in 2014 and 2017.
Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West were Suburban XII North Girls Volleyball co-champions. West defeated Central in the Class Two, District Five Semifinal before losing at Ritenour in the Final.
