Florissant Honors 64th Walk through History member

 

The City of Florissant held a Plaque Dedication for Mel (Melvyn) Moellering on Wednesday, Aug/ 28. This was the 64th plaque along St. Francois Walk Thru History Plaque Dedication Program. This program was designed to recognize those individuals who have made valuable contributions to the wholesome fabric of our beautiful City of Florissant and North St. Louis County.

The ceremony was held at 5:30 pm at the corner of St. Francois and Lafayette Street in the location of the old Citizens Bank of Florissant, which was later named Florissant Bank. The Bank is where Melvyn began his career in 1935.

Melvyn’s daughter, Sue Sheehan, spoke and shared some beautiful words about Mel’s life.

Mayor Tim Lowery spoke, as well as Old Town Partners President Jessica Berchtold. A large number     of people from Melvyn’s family were there to honor his life.

28 December, 1912 – 16 March, 2003

Born in Florissant the first of 10 children. Mel began his career at the Florissant Bank in 1935.

President & Chairman of the board from 1956-1978. Mel was active in his community, civic and charitable activities serving on the Florissant Park & Planning & Zoning Commissions, the Rotary Club & the Library Board. Involved with Marygrove, Valley Industries & the Marianists.

Mel was married to Loretta (Meyer) from 1938-1995, raising 5 children in Florissant. Mel’s life was dedicated to others.

Following the Plaque dedication was Wednesday Night Out hosted by Florissant Old Town Partners at Red Oven Wood Fired Pizza, and it was a great turnout
