Grants will Benefit Bangert And St. Ferdinand Parks

Florissant has received two Park Improvement Grants from the Metro Parks Grant Commission, totaling $376,000. The city was one of 12 municipalities out of 26 grant applicants to receive funding for the projects.

A $4,000 grant is to update the master plan for the Bockrath-Wiese House in St. Ferdinand Park for the addition of a patio and kitchen. Mayor Robert Lowery, Sr. said that it is the administration’s plan to present to the Florissant City Council the objective of having a restaurant-type setting outdoors with a patio for the spring and summer months. There is also a plan to eventually expand the lake to accommodate small boats for recreation, similar to Forest Park.

A $372,000 grant is for Bangert Park Pool renovations, which was suggested by the administration to the city council. Pool updates would include an aquatic-type play structure on one side and a Kiddie Spray pool on the other. The equipment would be similar to the Koch Park pool.
