Trinity Catholic and John F. Kennedy Catholic, Archdiocesan Athletic Association rivals will clash Thursday, 7 p.m. in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Boys Soccer Class One Quarterfinal game at the Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton.
The winner advances to play in the 42nd MSHSAA Championship semifinals, Nov. 20 against Crocker or Springfield Catholic. Trinity and Kennedy split AAA games, each winning on the road as Trinity won at Kennedy, 2-1, on Sept. 10 and Kennedy won , 2-0, at Trinity on Oct. 21.
Trinity won District Two at home, their fourth in seven years. On Nov. 2 Joe Pieper scored six goals while Bob Terranove and Corey Kinnison each had three assists as Trinity peppered Carnhan with 21 shots and 13 goals in the first half of a 13-0 Titan win that was called at halftime. On Nov. 3 Pieper scored three more in a 6-0 Titan shutout of Crossroads College Prep and on Nov. 5 Lutheran North goalkeeper Tyler Branneky stopped 11 Trinity shots but the Titans beat the Crusaders, 2-1.
CLASS THREE-McCLUER NORTH won District Eight at Florissant Civic Center Park, their 13th District or Regional Championship in 36 years. Goalkeeper Ian McReynolds had two shutouts as the Stars defeated McCluer, 1-0, on Nov. 3 and Hazelwood Central, 4-0. McCluer North played Francis Howell Nov. 10 at the A-B Center, results unavailable at press time, and the winner plays Saturday, 3 p.m. at the A-B Center against Francis Howell North or St. Louis University High for the right to play Nov. 20-21.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL-INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY took third place last weekend in the Class Four State Championship at Municipal Auditorium, Kansas City. IWA defeated Metro Women’s Athletic Association White Division rival St. Joseph’s Academy, 23-25, 25-17, 26-24 last Saturday, a day after the two rivals split the round-robin semifinal, IWA winning 25-18 and St. Joe winning 25-17. In the other round semifinal matches last Friday IWA lost to eventual state champion Ozark, 25-19, 25-21, and Blue Springs, 25-19, 25-12.
