Gardeners of Florissant Celebrate

50th Anniversary; Flower Show

Meeting for 50th anniversary of The Gardeners of Florissant

The Gardeners of Florissant celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 5. The group met at the Rose Garden of the Florissant Civic Center. The community organization has provided education and demonstrations about growing plants and flowers and has been a good group for socialization of its members.

The Gardeners of Florissant contribute to the Florissant community by maintaining the Rose Garden at the Civic Center, a small garden on Pershall Rd. and has assisted in maintaining the flower wall in back of the Circle K gas station on New Florissant Rd.

Every year it plants trees on Arbor Day in honor of its deceased active members in various city parks. It raises money for the New Horizon Therapeutic Horsemanship program on Jamestown Rd. This program helps children with developmental disabilities learn to care for

and ride horses.

The Rose Garden is maintained by Jenny Meyer who, along with other members have followed her father in the origination and maintenance of this garden since 1973.

At the June meeting, several older members related their memories of their adventures – and misadventures – on the club’s annual bus trips to various garden shops in outlying areas.

Albums were available with pictures from the organization’s activities since its inception in 1973. Membership continues to grow for the Gardeners of Florissant. It welcomes everyone who is interested to attend meetings and assist in its activities.

There is a flower show sponsored by the Gardeners of Florissant, but open to the public for its contributions. This year, it will be held at the Florissant Valley library on Saturday Aug. 12, from 9 to 3 p.m.
