North County Inc. Honors Area Leaders

At its recent Annual Awards Dinner North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice presented awards to a number of outstanding individuals. A major recipient was Michael McMillan, president/CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis who received the Human Relations Award for his outstanding acheivement in bringing individuals and organizations together to deal with many problems that exist within the area including Ferguson.

Other recipients included:

  • Chief Timothy Lowery of the Florissant Police Department received the Community Service Award for his work with other police departments, churches, schools, and NCCU to improve the relations between the police and the community.
  • Carolyn Marty recently retired president/CEO of the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce who also received the Community Service Award for her outstanding work as leader of the Chamber and the community.
  • A third recipient was Kedra Tolson Executive Director of Marketing and Communications of St. Louis Community College who also received a Community Service Award for her outstanding work and commitment to the community.
  • The Outstanding Education Award was presented to Hazelwood School District’s “Bright Futures” program. This program provides assistance to students and families who have special needs.

The President’s Award was presented to Kim Chandler, John Knox Presbyterian Church’s Office Administrator and New Creation is Christ Church for their support of North County Churches Uniting for Racial Harmony and Justice work within the community.

Keynote Speaker was Chancellor Thomas George of UMSL. Master of Ceremonies was Rev. Cedric Portis of Third Presbyterian Church, and music was provided by Mrs. Gwendolyn Wesley of St. Louis Symphony In Unison Chorus and Legend Singers Choral Ensemble.
