2 Florisssant Council Seats Contested;
4 Candidates For 3 FFSD Directors
Postponed from the first Tuesday in April, municipal and school board elections will be held Tuesday, June 2 in St. Louis County. On the ballot in Florissant are two contested city council seats and one city council seat in the City of Hazelwood. There are no bond issues or tax levy increases on the ballot in The Independent News area
There are no contests in the Hazelwood School Board election as all three incumbents, Brenda Youngblood, Mark Behlmann and Margo McNeil are running unopposed.
In the Ferguson-Florissant School Board races, there are four candidates vying for three posts on the school board and once again a district voter can cast three votes in this election, all three votes for one candidate, or split the votes among the four. Incumbent Donna Paulette-Thurman is opposed by Kevin Martin, Connie Harge and Tiffany Bush. Three of the four will be elected to three-year terms.
In Florissant, incumbent Robert Parson will oppose David Clasby in the ward 8, while incumbent Jeff Caputa faces Robert Smith in Ward 4. Two other council seats are unopposed for Paul Manganelli, recently appointed, and newcomer Patrick Mulcany.
Three of the four council posts in the City of Hazelwood are unopposed: Warren Taylor, Bob Aubuchon and Mary Singleton. One incumbent Tyler Wilson is opposed by Dan Herin.
A new mayor will be elected in Ferguson as Mayor James Knowles is stepping down paving the way for one of the two woman council members to be the first woman mayor of Ferguson. Heather Robinett and Ella Jones are seeking the position that Knowles occupied and was very visible during the unrest in the city following the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in 2014.
In April the ballot was to include a rate increase for Metropolitan Sewer District, but it was dropped from the June 2 ballot.
