The Flower Valley Quilting guild is sponsoring the Flower Valley Quilt Show this weekend (Sept. 26-27) at Atonement Lutheran Church, 1285 Florissant Road. The show is held every other year by the guild featuring the works of local quilters.
The show will feature works by over 70 of the 110 quilters in the guild, according to organizer Teajuana Mahone. In addition to bed quilts, there will be miniatures, wall hangings, quilted clothing, and special projects.
Some of the special projects will be challenge quilts. In a challenge, each guild member who wants to participate is given a list of fabrics, or a group of patterns, and creates a quilt. There will also be a quilt raffle.
Each show has a featured quilter, a member or guest whose work is featured in the show. This year’s featured quilter is guild member and North County resident Wanetia Ebker. Over 50 of her quilted items will be displayed. They include quilts, wall hangings, table runners, and other quilted items.
Ebker has been quilting for 20 years, and has been a member of the guild for eight years. “I’ve always got several projects going at once,†she said. She said she is constantly inspired and wants to start something new.
Ebker said she enjoys the quilt guild. The guild meets once a month for formal meetings, and other times during the month, members meet to work on projects and socialize. Ebker said these smaller meetings were helpful to her, because she could bring along a project and work on it during the meeting. She also likes to see what other members are doing and occasionally asks advice on her own projects.
One of Ebker’s quilts that will be shown is a blue bed size quilt that was made as a guild project. The project organizer provided the patterns for the various quilt blocks and the quilters interpreted them in their own fabric choices. Ebker’s quilt is a stunning mix of blues and whites.
The Flower Valley Quilt Guild meets every third Thursday of the month starting at 7 p.m. Meetings are held at the Zion Lutheran Church, 123 Carson Road, in Ferguson. Smaller, working meetings are held on other nights. For more information, see the website at http://www.geocities.com/flowervalleyquiltguild/ of call 868-8209.
