Ends 2019 With SLABA Playoffs

slaba image   American National 15U Baseball, which began the 2019 season May 23, is to close out this week with the SLABA 15U playoffs. The Eagles were to play the St. Charles Capitals July 15 in a losers’ bracket playoff game at Fox High, Arnold but it was rained out and played, weather permitting July 16 at Seckman High, Imperial. The winner played the South West Stars July 17 or 18 at The Principia (Upper School), Town And Country, and July 18 or 19 at undetermined site and time at press time if the Stars lost. Meanwhile, the JC Blazers won the 15U title by winning two games to none July 13-14 over the Easton Tigers.

As of July 15 at 3 p.m., rain was in the St. Louis area due to remnants of what was Hurricane Barry and rain was in the forecast for July 16 so these games were rescheduled. Fox has an artificial infield but a grass outfield, the entire field at Seckman is artificial and The Principia is a grass field. American National 15U began the SLABA 15U Playoffs July 13 with a 12-5 win over the SB Stallions at the Hazelwood Sports Complex and lost 7-6 July 14 to the Stars at Seckman in a winners’ bracket game.

American National 15U, prior to the playoffs, was 5-7 overall and 3-4 in division games. The Eagles have wins over the Capitals, Tigers, STL Patriots, Stallions and Stars while losing to the Blazers (twice), Capitals (twice), Patriots, Tigers and Stallions. The Eagles were to play the Stars June 18 and the Tigers July 11 but were not played or cancelled due to inclement weather.

In 12 regular season games American National 15U have OPS of 9.798, an on base percentage of .448, slugging .350 and batting .348. Of the 119 hits, prior to July 11, 76 were singles, 16 doubles, four triples and no home runs. The Eagles scored 105 runs while driving in 85, about 52 batters walked while 11 were hit by pitch and runners stole 46 bases in 49 attempts.

Nathan Anderson played in nine of the 12 regular season games but has an OPS of 1.233, is slugging .650, has an on base percentage of .583 and is batting .500.Hunter Shoulta has 11 singles out of 14 hits, has 18 total bases and 14 runs batted in. Kainoa Cabrera was hit by pitch three times and scored 13 runs, Tyler Reed has 14 hits including three doubles, Michael Bohning and Jackson Kurtzeborn each walked eight times and Kameron Simon stole eight bases without being caught.

Nathan Eagan pitched six games, completed one with three wins 13 strikeouts and earned run average of 2.62 and a WHIP, of 1.62. Eagles’ pitching struck out 55 while fielding percentage was .821 in 116 total chances. Reed has 19 chances without an error with 16 putouts and three assists while Kurtzeborn has 10 assists.

SLABA 15U ALL STAR GAME will be played July 29 at 5:30 at Car Shield Field, Formerly TR Hughes Ballpark, O’Fallon, Mo. Car Shield is the hone of the Frontier League’s River City Rascals.

   SLABA 18U — AMERICAN NATIONAL 18U went winless in 14 games including no wins in six division games. The 18U All-Star game is July 30 at 5:30 at GCS Ballpark, formerly GMC Stadium, Sauget, Ill. GCS is home to the Frontier League’s Gateway Grizzlies.
