With the American Revolution underway, a nation’s independence is ready to be claimed. The three-time Tony Award-winning 1776 sets ablaze the historic signing of the Declaration of Independence and illuminates the personalities, passions and compromises that created a nation. Featuring a telling score that includes “Sit Down, John,” “He Plays the Violin,” and “Momma Look Sharp,” this Muny production will mesmerize, delight and inspire you. It will be the third show of the Muny season, opening June 27 for seven nights.

Ob Ruggiero is returning for The Muny’s 101st season as director for 1776. Last year, he directed Gypsy, as well as past productions of The Music Man, Oklahoma!; Hello, Dolly!; South Pacific and The King and I. He has also directed many award-winning productions at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, including Follies, Sunday in the Park with George and a recent production of Evita.
