New Trash Hauler Selected, but
Not Yet Announced
Mayor Tim Lowery and the Florissant City Council have decided to terminate the Exclusive Residential Solid Waste Collection Services Agreement with Meridian Waste, Inc. effective July 1, 2019. A Notice of Termination letter was delivered to the management team at Meridian Waste, Inc. Monday notifying them of the termination of its solid waste collection services agreement.
The City of Florissant has been receiving numerous complaints from its residents for over a year concerning “woefully inadequate trash service and customer service issues” that have not improved.
The City of Florissant has had discussions and meetings with Meridian’s management and had provided numerous emails to Meridian about its failure to provide services in accordance with the July 2017 Agreement and Contract documents related to such agreement.
The City of Florissant is demanding that Meridian Waste, Inc. continue to provide waste collection services until July 1, 2019 to all of its Florissant customers. The City of Florissant is also advising all residents that they should not pay the latest invoice from Meridian Waste, Inc. for waste hauling services to be performed in July, August and September.
The City has directed Meridian Waste, Inc. to refund any payments that have already been made by the residents. A new trash hauler has been selected. ‘We ask all residents to be patient as we move through this transition,” Mayor Lowery staged. He said he and the city council are confident that the new trash hauler will provide the services the residents expect and deserve.
