Rain Doesn’t Stop Old Town Plaque Dedication;
Ceremony Moved Inside at VFW Post 4105
Stormy weather did not stop the crowd of people that came to celebrate the first Wednesday Night Out event of the year that was hosted by the VFW Post 4105 on May 29 with the theme “Proud to be an American.”
At 7:45 p.m. many family and friends gathered inside the VFW Post to unveil the 39th Walk Through History plaque in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Charles F. Prevedel Vietnam Era MIA/POW Green Beret. Mayor Tim Lowery welcomed everyone that was in attendance as the 12th District Guard presented the colors and Lady J. Huston with the Daughters of the American Revolution sang the National Anthem and at the end of the plaque dedication she also performed “Taps” on her trumpet. (More photos from the event on page 6.)
Martha Richardson the VFW 4105 Auxiliary President handled the POW/MIA ceremony. Joe Prevedel the brother of Sgt. 1st Class Charles F. Prevedel said a few words. Scott Frame who is a VFW active duty member assisted Joe Prevedel and his sister Judy Prevedel Larouere in unveiling the plaque.
Florissant’s first Wednesday Night in Old Town was dampened by showers and many outside activities were limited for the ‘Proud to be an American’ night on rue St. Francois Street.
Thanks to all the volunteers and the VFW Post 4105 at 410 rue St. Francois, the ceremony and plaque dedication was moved inside honoring Army Sgt. 1st Class Charles F. Prevdel, Vietnam era MIA/POW who died in the Vietnam War. His remains had been identified in 2003 and were returned to the family and buried at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in 2004.
As part of the ceremeny, the national anthem was sung by Lady Huston, VFW 12th District Color Guard presented colors and Taps was played (above photos) presented by American Legion Post 444. The music group Sonic Tonic was able to perfrom music inside the VFW Hall after the rain curtailed most outdoor events. They were going to play on the street but moved all their equipment inside.
