Walk in Forest Park on June 2
The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis (DSAGSL) is hosting the 10th Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome (SUDS) walk on Sunday, June 2, to celebrate the many abilities of people with Down syndrome. Grace Strobel – St. Louis’ 22-year-old modeling sensation and speaker with Down syndrome – will serve as the Honorary Emcee for the event.
Grace has been featured in 9 different magazines and newspaper articles, has been interviewed on TV and radio, walked the Winter Walk Fashion Show by Ola Style and the runway for Atlantic City Fashion Week in February 2019. She was on the cover of Chesterfield Lifestyle Magazine and has been a model in an advertising campaign in print media. She will also appear in an upcoming feature on NBC’s The Today Show.
According to Grace’s mom Linda Strobel, “It takes courage to change hearts and minds especially after being made fun of, but that is what Grace is doing – one school at a time, one student at a time. She does that with #TheGraceEffect, a presentation she gives to help students understand things that are often hard to talk about.” Grace has spoken to well over 2,000 students in the St. Louis area.
The DSAGSL is the only area agency that benefits the lives of individuals with Down syndrome of all ages through individual and family support, education, public awareness and advocacy. There are more than 1,800 children and adults with Down syndrome in Greater St. Louis. ,
The 10th Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome event June 2 in Forest Park and will immediately follow the Run for 21 5k at the Upper Muny Parking lot. There will be food trucks and loads of family-focused fun, including the Bubble Bus, a rock climbing wall, petting zoo, bounce castles, crafts, carnival games, music by the Rock 21 bands, DJ, dancing, and more.
