Florissant Asks Residents To Help Deter Mosquitoes

Florissant Director of Public Works Lou Jearls is asking residents to clean up their yards.

He notes that we have had a nice mix of sunshine and rain this past spring and now into the summer. However, along with this blessing we have grass to cut, weeds to pull, and with the warmer weather, we will have mosquitoes.

The City will, Jearls said, address the mosquitoes as best it can with regular mosquito fogging as it has done in the past.

The city also asks residents to help out in a few areas as follows:

• Maintain and cut your grass on a regular basis

• Cut down and remove weeds wherever possible

• Remove all vegetation from your gutters. Debris can create water pools which promotes mosquito breeding. These “gutter gardens” are unattractive and a code violation.

• Remove all standing water. This will help prevent areas where mosquitoes can breed and grow.

If you have any questions, please call Lou Jearls, director of Public Works at 314-921-5700.
