Vacation in the Florissant Valley? Historical Society Offer Travel Packets

Historic Florissant, Inc. and the Florissant Valley Historical Society are extending an invitation to vacation during August, the last month of summer, in your own hometown.

Travel packets can be picked up at the Gittemeier House Book Store, 1067 Dunn Rd, Florissant. It is open daily from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. except Sunday from 1-4.

Maps, brochures and answers to trivia questions such as where was the first filling station or electric traffic signal? When did piped water come to Florissant, and where can you still find a privy and a well house?

Check out a show of young artists in an old farm house. Then there is the first street light, three city halls and the first Protestant church. Visit Taille de Noyer which will have a reduced admission charge for families during August. Learn about Father DeSmet at the St. Stanislaus Museum. Visit an antique shop in a historic house. Did they wear wooden shoes in Florissant?

Who were the Florissant parks named for and why? Have breakfast in a historic house, lunch in a barn, and dinner in an old grocery store.
