(Special to the Independent News)

ferguson florissant school district logoResponding to passionate feedback from community members and results of a comprehensive facilities assessment, the Ferguson-Florissant School District presented three revised options in a community meeting that packed the Hub at McCluer High School last week . “We understand our community’s desire to preserve the memories from the past,” stated Supt. Joseph Davis. “We believe we can balance preserving those memories while preparing our children and community for the future.”

The board will review feedback from this meeting prior to making its decision regarding restructuring, which likely will come at the Oct. 10 board meeting.

Three Options Considered

All three options include free, full-day, full-week early education with certified teachers for three and four year-olds.

All three options include PreK-2nd grade schools

All three options include 3rd-5th grade schools.

All three options include middle school complexes with 6th grade schools to ease the transition to middle school and mitigate barriers to success and increase access to middle school programming.

All three options include an Innovation School that will provide innovative, transformative options for students to experience success in a non-traditional environment including in career academies, internships, and mentor/instructors.

All three options include a STEAM high school in Ferguson.

”As a parent in the district I understand the desire to prepare our children for the best opportunities in life. That’s what I want for my children too. I think we can find a way to honor our memories AND prepare our children for their future,” emphasized Board of Education President Courtney Graves. “As board president I know we have been entrusted to raising the quality of education in our schools while being fiscally responsible stewards of your financial investment as taxpayers.”
