Florissant Legion Baseball Teams Struggle for Wins, Seniors Winless

By Jim Wieners

Florissant American Legion Post 444 Baseball teams have been struggling to win games this season and the senior team was looking for their first win as early as July 8.

That was one of three games remaining until the 10th District Tournament which could start as soon as July 14. Florissant’s last scheduled game is July 12, 4:30 at Parkway Central High against Creve Coeur, who was leading the 10th District prior to July 6.

Prior to July 8 the Florissant Seniors were 0-9 in the 10th District, 0-11 overall. All but one of their games was against the 10th District, with one of the Maryland Heights games counting as non league. The only non league rivals played and reported was the Jefferson County Blazers from the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association and that was in the Tournament of Champions, June 30 in Edwardsville, Ill.

No team statistics were available.

Ballwin, Creve Coeur and Eureka were in a tight battle for the top of the 10th District.

JUNIOR LEGION — Florissant opened the season with five wins in their first eight games but prior to July 2 the Post 444 Juniors were 5-6 in the 10th District, 5-9 overall but three games were either postponed, cancelled or not reported. Florissant has two wins over Maryland Heights Blue, has split with Creve Coeur and Eureka and has least a win over Manchester. Maryland Heights Red, as of July 8, won the 10th District regular season title with a 14-0 record, 23-1 overall.

FRESHMAN LEGION — Florissant completed the season with a 2-7 record in the 10 District, 2-19 overall. After losing their first 16 games Post 444 won two of their last five with wins over Thoman Boothe and Creve Coeur.
