Hazelwood West Wins 6 Suburban 12

North Titles; Four Came Last Fall

Hazelwood West won the most Suburban XII (12) Conference North Division titles during the school year of 2017-18, with the majority of them coming in the fall of 2017.

Hazelwood West won six out of 13 sports that are part of the Suburban XII North. Of the six Suburban XII North titles, West won four of them in the fall.

Hazelwood West Softball went 8-0 in the Suburban XII North and 20-2 overall. Boys Soccer at West played only three games in the Suburban XII North (did not play Hazelwood East). Girls Volleyball was 8-1 in the Suburban XII North (losing only to Hazelwood Central) but the Wildcats had the best overall record (18-9-1).

In Swimming and Diving Hazelwood West was the best in the Suburban XII North as the Wildcats won the Boys title in the fall and the Girls completed the Suburban XII North title sweep in the winter. During the spring the Girls completed the Soccer sweep as the ‘Cats were 5-0 in the Suburban XII North.

Hazelwood West won district titles in Softball and Baseball, and both lost in Sectionals. In Track And Field sophomore Justin Robinson, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch second-team All-Metro Boys’ Sprinter won Class Five State titles at 200 and 400 Meters (setting a state record in the 400).

   HAZELWOOD CENTRAL is undefeated in four consecutive years in Suburban XII North Football after the final two years of going undefeated in the old Suburban North Conference. That is 34-0 against the Suburban XII North (including 5-0 last Fall) and the Suburban North. Boys Basketball (5-0) and Girls Basketball (4-0) also won Suburban XII North Titles.

Hazelwood Central won district titles in Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Girls Soccer and Girls Track And Field. Football (only four districts in Class Six), Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball teams were State Quarterfinalists while Girls Soccer was a Class Four Sectional Qualifier.

In Class Five State Girls’ Track And Field, the 4×200-Meter Relay team won State for the third consecutive year. In PARA Class L, junior Amari Anderson won state at 100 Meters against two competitors and at 200 Meters against one competitor. Anderson’s results did not count in the Class Five Girls team point standings.

McCLUER NORTH went 8-0 in winning Suburban XII North Baseball. Meanwhile, Girls Tennis went 7-1 in winning the Suburban XII North and the Stars were champions in Suburban XII North Wrestling.

McCluer North won Class Two, District Six Girls Team Tennis. In Class Five State Girls Track And Field sophomore Michelle Owens, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro Girls Hurdler, won State in the 100-Meter Hurdles while the 4×100-Meter Relay won their second straight title.

McCLUER SOUTH-BERKELEY won their second straight Suburban Central Conference American Division Football title, going 6-0 in the last two years and during that stretch the Bulldogs were 22-2 overall. Football won Class Three, District Five for the second consecutive year, losing to Jefferson City-Blair Oaks in the Quarterfinals. Softball won the Suburban Central American title.

McCLUER Boys Tennis won the Suburban XII North Title and the Class Two District Six team title. Boys Track And Field shared the Class Five, District Four title with Parkway North.
