It’s the Entertainment That Brought the Dining Divas to Famed Dogtown Locale
by Lisa Kampeter
I wasn’t worried that this month’s Dining Divas would be a flop. I knew it would be entertaining. I knew we’d have a lot of laughs. And I knew we’d be okay with the menu choices. But I forgot it would be so loud.
It was a Thursday night at Failoni’s on Manchester, and the Cardinals weren’t the only entertainment. They had live music and the band was only a table away. What we lost in conversation we made up for in people watching.
The Blonde Diva originally recommended we try Failoni’s. And so we did, but she didn’t! She couldn’t make it at the last minute, which was unfortunate for her and the other single, older Divas that weren’t able to join us. There was plenty of dancing and singing with this mostly 55-plus crowd.
The Colorful Diva’s husband was upset he wasn’t invited. The Experienced Diva covered her “sensitive” ears most of the night. And the Social Diva captured it all for Facebook. Seriously, it was entertaining! Even the Young Divas (aka – Under-40 Divas) enjoyed themselves. If only we had a seat outside the bar area or the main dining area or even outside! We still would have been able to enjoy the sights and sounds and maybe have a conversation.
For over 100 years, the Failoni family has been serving up lunch, dinner, and entertainment. “People-watching at its finest,” said the Teacher Diva. “It was loud,” said the other Teacher Diva who is just ready for the school year to be over.
Yet the Italian Diva said, “I’m bummed it’s taken me so long to get back there.” The only thing that would have made it better for her would have been to hear the Failoni family members singing Sinatra tunes like they sometimes do.
Trying to make wise choices, the Dieting Diva had the Grilled Chicken Caesar salad which was huge and had no shortage of grilled chicken. The homemade croutons were definitely not on her diet plan but were certainly worth the calories. Rosemary’s Italian Green Olives were loaded with garlic, Italian dressing, and celery and were definitely a hit at the table.
For many of us who had been to Failoni’s before, the pizza has always been the best option.
But to be honest, we didn’t go to Failoni’s for the food. We went for the atmosphere. And “it was a hoot,” said the Wise Diva. A once in a lifetime experience, for some. Or just the kind of night out we needed, for others.
