Lutheran High School North Track and Field teams enjoyed competing at home, on the Peterson Memorial Track surrounding the Bill Lamothe Football Field, especially April 12 in the 48th Lutheran North Relays.
As a result not only did both the Boys and Girls won, they dominated the meet as well.
The LHSN Boys scored 207 points and finished 79 ahead of runner up and Metro League rival Principia (128). The Crusaders were 118 points better than third-place Clayton (89) and were 145 better than fourth-place North Technical. On the Girls side Lutheran North won their own Relays by scoring 159 points, 20 better than runner up Clayton (139) and 88 better than third-place North Technical.
In Boys action, Senior Marcus Smith won three events to lead the Crusaders. Marcus Smith won the High Jump by clearing the bar at 5’10’> Marcus won two Hurdles events, taking the 110-Meter Highs in 16.56 seconds and the 330-Meter Intermediates in 43.76 seconds.
Three Boys relay teams finished in the top two and won two of them, both sprints. The Crusader won the 4×200-Meter Relay running the event in 1:13.74 and, two Boys events later, took the 4×100-Meter Relay in 45.17 seconds. The 4×800-Meer Relay took second place by running it in 9:02.6.
Sophomore Jalik Smith was a top-three finisher in three events, one on the Peterson Track and the other two in field event jumps. Jalik Smith won the 110-Meter Hurdles, set at 36” in 16.22 seconds. Jalik too a Long Jump of 19’7” and took second while taking third in the Triple Jump with a hop, skip and jump of 40’.
Other individual winners include junior Joshua Hopkins, Triple Jump (44’1.5”), junior Yi Xu, Javelin (114’), and senior Donovan Marshall, 200-Meter Dash (23.47 seconds). Other runner up finishers include junior Isaiah Azubuike, Discus (113’), sophomore Braiden Wade, High Jump (5’2”), and freshman Jerrell Carter, 110-Meter Hurdles set at 36” (18.55 seconds).
Leading the way for the Lutheran North Girls is junior Jordyn White, who won two jumps and a hurdles event. White made winners in the Long jump of 16’11” and the Triple Jump of 34’10”. White won the 100-Meter Hurdles, running the event in 16.21 seconds.
There were only two competitors in the Girls Pole Vault, both from Lutheran North. Senior Hongyou (Chloe) Liu won the event by clearing the bar at 6’6” while sophomore Taylor Ross took the runner up position at 5’6”.
Besides the Pole Vault Ross was a top three finisher in thee other events. She won the 100-Meter Hurdles, set at 30”, running it in 19.42 seconds. Ross was second in the 300-Meter Hurdles (57.06 seconds) and third in the Triple Jump (31’10.5”).
Freshman Hope Villars won the Javelin with a throw of 61’4”. Sophomore Toni McConnell took a 15’1” Long Jump and ended up in second. In the Relays LHSN was second at 4×400 Meters (4:53.92) and third at 4×200 Meters (1:54.05).
Sophomore Jasmine Bibby took second in the Triple Jump (32’3”) and third in the Long Jump (14”3”). Freshman Ellie Jander was second in the 1,600-Meter Run (6:22.84) and third in the 800-Meter Run (2:54.01). Freshman Olivia Smith took second in the Javelin (55’1”) and third in Discus (85’9”).
NORTH TECHNICAL — Both Boys and Girls 4×400-Meter Relay teams won at Lutheran North. The Boys ran the 4×400 in 3:36.64 while the Girls ran the 4×400 in 4:32.53.
Senior Jessica Myers won the 200-Meter Dash (26.9 seconds) and took third in the 100-Meter Dash (12.71 seconds). Junior LaNai Johnson won the 400-Meter Dash (1:01.79) and was runner up in the 200-Meter Dash (27.24 seconds). Two other Girls Relay teams took second including the 4×100 Meters in 51.95 seconds and the 4×200 Meters in 1:49.85.
In the boys competition second-place finishers include senior Jaison Myers, 300-Meter Intermediate Hurdles (43.97 seconds), senior Brandon Patterson, 400-Meter Dash (54.2 seconds), and junior Myles Pratt, 800-Meter Run (2:13.88). Junior Abdoulaye Sarr took third in the 400-Meter Dash (55.3 seconds).
