McCluer High School held off three Suburban North Conference rivals last Saturday at McCluer North and won the Class Four, District Three Girls Track & Field title.

The Comets scored 114 points and qualified to compete this Saturday in 12 events at the Class Four, Sectional Two meet at Parkway North. McCluer finished seven points ahead of runner up McCluer North, eight ahead of third-place Hazelwood West and 13 ahead of fourth-place Hazelwood Central.

McCluer head coach Phillip Wollbrinck credits overall team effort in the Comets winning the district title. “Everyone did the job,” Wollbrinck said. “Thank God our kids stayed healthy, focused and did their job.”

McCluer won three district events, all in field competition. Senior Cathy Jenkins led the Comets with wins in the High Jump and Triple Jump while senior Jacquie Waters won in Discus.

HAZELWOOD CENTRAL will compete in 10 events while McCLUER NORTH, HAZELWOOD WEST and HAZELWOOD EAST will compete in nine events each this Saturday in Class Four, Sectional Two.

McCluer North won the most girls events of any area team with five including wins in the 4×400-Meter Relay and the 4×800-Meter Relay, senior Gladys Downing won the
1,600-Meter Run and 3,200-Meter Run and junior Datiana Guerrero-Goodwin won the 800-Meter Run. Hazelwood West won four events last Saturday including junior Shanelle Williams swept the hurdles events (100-Meters and 300-Meters), senior Amelia Aubuchon won the Pole Vault and junior A’Misua Hall won the Long Jump. Hazelwood Central senior Jessica Ochemba won the Shot Put while Hazelwood East won the 4×100-Meter Relay.

CLASS THREE — McCLUER SOUTH-BERKELEY will compete in 10 Sectional Two events, NORTH COUNTY TECH will compete in nine and LUTHERAN NORTH will compete in three this Saturday at Mary Institute/Country Day School. Last Saturday at MICDS MS-Berkeley scored 102 points but was second by 1.5 points to MICDS, North Tech was fourth with 74 and Lutheran North was ninth.
