Thursday, May 7, high school boys golf teams in and near the Florissant Valley area will be playing in district golf tournaments with the district championship teams advancing to the state championships, May 18-19, while the top 10 golfers from teams other than the district champions also going to state.
If the team(s) that do not win districts send four or five golfers to state then the team(s) qualify to compete for the state team championships but only those individuals that qualify for state will compete.
Most of the area teams will be at Eagle Springs in the Class Four, District Three tournament in hopes to advance to state at Rivercut Golf Course, Springfield. The competing area teams at Eagle Springs include Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer North, McCluer and Riverview Gardens and they will compete against Chaminade, DeSmet, Parkway Central, Parkway North and Ritenour.
Trinity Catholic will be at Forest Park Golf Course for Class Three, District Three in hopes of competing in state at Freemont Hills Country Club, Nixa. Lutheran North will be at Innsbrook Golf Course for Class Two, District Two in hopes of competing at state at Sedalia Country Club.
BOYS TENNIS — District tournaments will take place the week of May 11-16. The top four teams advance to team competition beginning with regionals at the top two district finishers, May 19, sectionals at site to be announced, May 21-23 and the state meet will take place May 28 at Cooper Tennis Complex, Springfield. The district singles and doubles champions as well as the district singles and doubles runner up will advance to state, May 29-30 in Springfield.
Most of the area teams — Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer North, McCluer and Riverview Gardens — will be in Class Two, District Two at Dwight Davis Tennis Center, Forest Park. Meanwhile Lutheran North will be at John Burroughs in Class One, District Two.
TRACK/FIELD — Districts for all area schools will be on May 16. The top four district finishers in each of the 18 boys and 18 girls events will advance to Sectionals on May 23, The top four district finishers in each sectional event advance to state on May 29-30 at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Lincoln University, Jefferson City.
McCluer North will host Class Four, District Three with Gateway Tech, Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, Incarnate Word Academy, McCluer, Normandy, Ritenour, Riverview Gardens and St. Louis University High competing against the Stars. Their road to Jeff. City goes through Parkway North for Sectional competition.
Meanwhile Lutheran North, McCluer South-Berkeley (defending state boys-girls state champions), North County Tech and Trinity Catholic will be in Class Three, District three.
Their road to Jeff. City goes through a sectional site to be announced.
BASEBALL — The road to state, at Meador Park, Springfield, begins with district tournaments during the week of May 16-23. All area schools will be in the largest two classes with odd-numbered district winners hosting Sectionals on May 26. Quarterfinals, at site(s) to be announced, will be May 28 and the state tournament will be June 5-6.
Hazelwood West will host Class Four, District Six with Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Jennings, McCluer North, McCluer and Riverview Gardens competing against the Wildcats. Lutheran North will host Class Three, District Four with McCluer South-Berkeley, Trinity Catholic, Cardinal Ritter, Metro, Miller Career Academy and Soldan-International Studies competing against the Crusaders.
GIRLS SOCCER — The road to state, in a new three-class format, begins with district tournaments May 16-23 and continues at the Anheuser-Busch Center, Fenton, for Class Three Sectionals May 26, Quarterfinals for Classes One-Two May 28, Class Three Quarterfinals May 30 and the state tournament for all classes June 5-6.
In Class One, Trinity Catholic will host District Four with Lutheran-St. Charles County, North County Tech, O’Fallon Christian, Orchard Farm and Winfield competing against the Titans.
Lutheran North will host Class Two with seven other schools competing against the Crusaders.
In Class Three the District Seven winner will play the District Eight winner on May 26. Last year’s Class Two State Champion Incarnate Word Academy will host District Seven with last year’s state runner up St. Joseph’s Academy and three others competing against the Red Knights. District Eight will be played at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley with Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Hazelwood West, McCluer North, McCluer and Riverview Gardens in the tournament.
