Mayor Thomas P. Schneider, the City of Florissant and Old Town Partners hosted the 20th annual festive Christmas in Old Town event and Tree Lighting ceremony last Saturday to officially start the holiday season in the city.

The fun began at 2 p.m. at City Hall (see photos) with Santa, hot chocolate, face painting, cookie decorating, story book reading, crafts by the St. Louis County Library and Mrs. Clause creating balloon art. For a small fee, children could have their photo taken with Jolly ol’ Saint Nick and chat with him as his Mrs. Claus. The event was well attended and everyone seemed to have a great time with all the activities.

The tree lighting ceremony began at 5 p.m. with Mayor Tom Schneider, Council President Jackie Pagano and Councilman from Ward 4 Jeff Caputa wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on behalf of the city administration, Police Chief Tim Lowery, the City Council and Municipal Judge Dan Boyle.

The 2017 Valley of Flowers Queen Megan Pilla and her Court had a few words to the crowd before Queen Pilla switched on the lights and the Florissant Barber Shoppers then led the gathering in Christmas carols.
