Jim Schottmueller deserves State Title

BY RANDY GARDNER
Could this be the year for Jim Schottmueller and the boys from McCluer North? As I write this column on Tuesday night, we are only three days until this team visits the Dome once again for a State Championship run.

As you probably know, the North Stars have had some unfortunate luck, as has many other Suburban North teams when they make it to the Dome. I’d would like to see coach Schottmueller win this year. This guy is a class act.

I have known him for along time and really respect the way he runs his football program and the way that he deals wit the kids. Good luck to the Stars. Lets bring home a State Championship to North County. Another team who had a great run this year that I cannot leave out is the Hazelwood Central Hawks but unfortunately they were defeated by a strong CBC team last week 49-21.

RAMS ARE A 50-50 TEAM

It seems like when things are going bad they get worse before they get better and that’s the case with the Rams. The team started off so strong but then let a few games get away from them and then now they lose Orlando Pace for the season. It’s funny how most of us know how important he is to this team and we take a guy like this for granted.

Because Pace is an offensive linemen, he scores no touchdowns, doesn’t intercept any passes but he maybe has the most important position and job on the team. That is protecting Marc Bulgers blind side. We know he is a pro bowl player but we just expect him to do his job always.

I think now we will really come to love an offensive lineman for what he brings to this team. I really think this team as far as winning is like throwing a penny up in the air. It’s 50/50 that it will land on heads. That’s the way this team is, the Rams could easily be 7-2 but we could also easily be 2-7. I am hoping to be a .500 team and maybe once again sneak in as a wildcard team. Think back to September and the Cards. It can happen.

RAGE TRYOUTS

During the year, I talk a lot about a sport that absolutely love and I think many of you would to, and that River City Rage Indoor Football. The team will be holding open tryouts at the family arena on Sunday Dec. 3rd at 9 a.m. for kickers, 10 a.m. for field players and 1 p.m. for cheerleaders. There is a registration fee involved so check out the website www.Ragefootball.com for more information.

Make sure that you are serious about playing though, this is not a league for guys who just think they can play. Most of the players in this league are former Divsion-1 college players from across America. Don’t be discouraged though. Remember Joe Horn and how he made it to the NFL never setting foot on a college field in his life.

I had a chance to talk to Coach Wyatt and he passed on some disturbing information as Robert Reeves, an offensive lineman for this team in 2005/06, was found dead in his sleep on Tuesday. Reeves was in his mid 20s and the cause is unknown. My condolences to him and his family. The Rage will kick off their season in March and Coach Wyatt is looking for nothing but a championship for his team.
