Hazelwood Honors 4 Employees of the Year

BY CAROL ARNETT
The Hazelwood City Council held an upbeat meeting on April 15, with employee of the year announcements and several positive items in Mayor T. R. Carr’s “what’s new” portion of the meeting.

Four different employees of the year were recognized at the meeting. Different departments have their own employees of the year.

Theresa Pfyl was honored as the City Hall employee of the year. Fire Fighter/ Paramedic Dale Kelle is the Fire Department employee of the year, and Police Officer Brian Wilcox is the Police Department employee of the year. Gary Gunter is the Public Works Department employee of the year.

The employees were nominated by their co-workers, and a committee of employees selected the final employees of the year. Carr congratulated those chosen, and noted that the committee choosing had a hard time because there were several great nominees.

In the “What’s new in Hazelwood” portion of the meeting, Carr announced that the Teson Road Drainage Bridge project was moving forward and bids had been solicited.

The Police Department received a $10,000 grant to aid in the enforcement of underage drinking laws. Also, Carr said, the Police Department would be setting up checkpoints to check for drunk drivers in May, and through the summer and fall. The checkpoints will be funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

Carr also announced the opening of Cargo Bay located in the former Kmart.

In other matters, the city held public hearings on two requests regarding subdivisions of property. In the first hearing, two parcels from the old Ford plant, which were railroad rights or way, will be separated so they can be sold to the new developer of the site.

In the second hearing, two lots from the old Kroger warehouse will be consolidated into one, also for a redevelopment project. The council held first readings on both subdivision requests.
