McCluer North, Lutheran North Boys, McCluer Girls Win in Track and Field

McCluer North head track and field coach Tom Dowling best described the boys team performance last Saturday in the Dale Collier Invitational at Kirkwood High School as a great meet.

McCluer North boys scored 92 points to win the Collier Invitational, finishing 19.5 points better than runner up Columbia-Hickman, 28 better than 2008 Illinois High School Association Class AA Champion East St. Louis, 30 better than Blue Springs, 30.5 better than St. Clair, 33.5 better than Jefferson City and 35 better than Columbia-Rock Bridge. The closest pursuer to McCluer North from the Suburban North Conference at the Collier Invitational, HAZELWOOD CENTRAL, was ninth with 44 points.

Ralph Watson and Damonte Bell “lay it on the line when they compete,” said Dowling and Watson set a new meet record in the 110-Meter High Hurdles, 13.98 seconds, smashing a 2006 mark, 14.5, set by Bernard Fowler, East St. Louis. Bell won the 100-Meter Dash with a 10-58-second finals performance.

Bell and Watson teamed up with Malik Gay and John Livers to win the 4×200-Meter Relay (1:29.18). Bell and Watson then teamed up with Anthony Kirkwood-Addison and Terrance Williams to win the 4×100-Meter Relay (42.25 seconds). Hazelwood Central boys had a winner in Spencer Davis in taking the 200-Meter Dash in 21.88 seconds.

McCluer North girls finished 11th in the team standings with 26 points but did get a win in the 4×400-Meter Relay when Gladys Downing, Alexius Short, Kenya Miller and Kendra White ran the event in 4:05.43 and White passed East St. Louis’ Deara McNeal in the home stretch.

Lutheran North won the boys ABC League Meet and was eighth in the girl’s Midwest Women’s Athletic Association meet last Saturday at The Principia. Lutheran North won the Boys 4×200-Meter Relay and Martin Hill won the 110-Meter High Hurdles. INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY, 10th in the MWAA meet, won the 4×100-Meter Relay.

At Ladue last Saturday McCluer won the Girls Connie Strobach Invitational while finishing third in the Boys Phil Brusca Inviational. In the Strobach Inviational Emequa Owens, Long Jump; Cathy Jenkins, Triple Jump; and Stephanie Price, 100-Meter Intermediate Hurdles; were winners while in the Brusca Invitational Isaac Johnson won the Triple Jump.

HAZELWOOD WEST girls finished tied for fifth at the Dale Collier Invitational at Kirkwood with Columbia-Hickman, 45 points each, 60 behind meet champion Jefferson City while HAZELWOOD CENTRAL girls finished ninth with 40. Hazelwood West’s Shanelle Williams won the 300-Meter Low Hurdles in 45.94 seconds.
