Florissant will participate in the American Red Cross Community Hero Day on Saturday, May 9 by offering CPR classes and blood donation opportunity.
Learn CPR from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Donate blood from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Learn how to prepare for disasters from 11 a.m-3 p.m. Programs will be conducted at the James J. Eagan Center, at Parker and Waterford streets.
Learning CPR and giving blood can help save lives. So for the fourth year, the American Red Cross and the City of Florissant are teaming up to help residents become a Community Hero. For one day, up to 100 people will learn the basics of CPR at a reduced cost of only $10 (a $46 value). In addition, the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive, because the need for blood is constant.
Sign-ups are required, as the CPR training can only accommodate the first 100 people to register. Visit www.redcrossstl.org to register for the CPR class, or call 314-516-2740. To register to give blood, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or go to www.givelife.org and enter the code “CommunityHeroes.” Walk-in blood donors will be accepted.
Anyone who attends the Community Hero Day will get a free tee shirt. Instructors will also teach how to prepare for emergencies such as home fires, natural disasters and more. These presentations are free and great for families and children.
Florissant was the first municipality to host Community Heroes Day in the St. Louis region.
This prompted other cities to follow its example, including the City of Belleville, City of St. Charles, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Jefferson County. Mayor Robert Lowery and other city officials have worked to grow this event year after year in order to help make their community a safer place to live with more people who are ready to save a life.
