By Jim Wieners
It has been three weeks since 8-0 Trinity Catholic Football played a varsity game on the field defeating John Burroughs 62-7 on Oct. 6
After St. Charles High forfeited the Nov. 13 game, Trinity got a bye on Oct. 20 after the co-cops of Northwest Academy of Law and Sumner, and their combined enrollment made them too large for Class Two, District Two
Therefore, after two weeks off, Trinity — seeded second in Class Two, District Two — will host third-seeded Cardinal Ritter College Prep Friday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. Ritter is 9-1 losing only to visiting Trinity 57-0 on Sept. 1. The Lions opened District Two play Oct. 20 with a 49-0 rout of Herculaneum.
Also in Class Two, District Two top-seeded Lutheran North had a bye last week as well. The Crusaders last played Oct. 14 and tied a school record in points scored in an 82-6 rout at Normandy High, scoring 12 rushing touchdowns including six by Canaan Brooks. Friday at 7 p.m., the 9-0 Crusaders host 3-6 Carnahan High School of the Future, a St. Louis Public School that routed PHL rival Cleveland NJROTC 62-0.
Friday’s winners will play Nov. 3, 7 p.m. at the highest seeded survivor.
CLASS SIX, DISTRICT TWO — Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. second-seeded Hazelwood Central (9-1) hosts third-seed and former Suburban North Conference Rival Ritenour (7-3) a day after top seeded CBC (9-1) hosts fourth-seeded Rockwood-Marquette (4-6). Hazelwood Central wrapped up their fourth straight undefeated Suburban XII Conference North Division title (six straight including the old Suburban North) with a come from behind 37-30 win over Riverview Gardens as Qion Butler scored two touchdowns including the game winner with 8:25 left in the fourth quarter. Central, with two Raphael Bell touchdowns, shuts out DeSmet Jesuit 20-0 in a District quarterfinal.
CBC won 55-8 Oct 20 to end McCluer North’s season at 0-10. Marquette won at home 38-28 over fifth-seeded Hazelwood West a week after the 5-4 Wildcats edged McCluer 28-26. Winners will play Nov. 3 (Nov. 4 if Hazelwood Central plays Marquette).
CLASS FIVE, DISTRICT TWO — Friday at 7 p.m. third-seeded Hazelwood East (6-3) visits second-seeded Chaminade College Prep (5-3) while top seed Pattonville (5-3) hosts fourth seed Webster Groves (5-3), and the winners play Nov. 3 (Nov. 4 if Hazelwood East plays Webster). Hazelwood East got four touchdowns from Maurice Chavers in a 50-12 win over McCluer North while Mekhi Hagens threw four touchdown passes, two to Dijion Walls in a 42-0 district shut out of Francis Howell North. Pattonville and Chaminade got first-round byes while Webster defeated Parkway South 24-12.
CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT THREE — Saturday at 1 p.m. top-seeded Riverview Gardens (7-3) hosts fourth-seeded Fort Zumwalt East (6-4) while Friday at 7 p.m. second-seeded Parkway Central (9-1) hosts third-seeded Parkway North (5-5). Riverview, with a win, will host the District Final Nov. 4 while a Zumwalt East win will send the district final to one of the Parkway Schools Nov. 3.
Despite Lawrence Johnson running for two touchdowns and passing to Davion Evers for two more Riverview was unable to hold to a 30-21 halftime lead at Hazelwood Central. However, in a 59-6 win over St. Charles high Johnson ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to Michael Hogans,
