5 Halloween Happenings Not To Be Missed!

halloween 1Trick-or-Treating at Hazelwood’s Food Truck or Trick Night Oct. 27

The Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division, in cooperation with Tyler Garcia of Locoz Tacoz, are hosting a Food Truck or Treat Night on Friday, Oct. 27, at Howdershell Park, 6810 Howdershell Road, from 5-8 p.m.

Come in a Halloween costume and be prepared to go trick-or-treating to each of the food trucks and collect candy.

Participating food trucks include the following: Locos Tacos; Blues Fired Pizza; St. Louisiana Q; and Destination Desserts. All ghosts and goblins can start making purchases from the food trucks at 5 p.m. and listen to “live” entertainment.

A beverage tent will also be on site to quench everyone’s thirst. In addition, there will be activities for kids to participate in at the park.

The musical entertainment will be performed by Shattered Edge, starting at 6 p.m. This is an exciting, new Americana-Pop-Rock mix cover band featuring the amazing vocals of Sarah Renee. Backed by a quartet of progressive, diverse and talented musicians, Sarah and her group bring a wide variety of musical styles and genres to venues all across the St. Louis metro area.

Hazelwood Parks Dept. Launches 2017 Halloween Coloring Page Contest for Kids

Part of the fun of celebrating Halloween is drawing pictures of ghosts, witches and scary pumpkins. For children living in the City of Hazelwood, they get to participate in the annual Halloween Coloring Contest sponsored by the Hazelwood Parks & Recreation Division.

The coloring pages for this year’s event have just been unveiled. The one for kids in the Kindergarten through 2nd Grade group shows a duck popping out of a Jack-O-Lantern. A second coloring page featuring a cartoonish Frankenstein is for youngsters in the 3rd through 5th grade group.

The rules of Hazelwood’s Halloween Coloring Contest are easy to follow. Here are a few of them:

  • One entry submitted per child
  • The coloring page must be completed by the child without assistance from siblings or parents

Copies of each coloring page can be picked up at both recreation centers or downloaded from the City’s website at www.hazelwoodmo.org on the front page.

Kids can turn in their coloring page entry at the Hazelwood Community Center, 1186 Teson Road, or at Civic Center East, 8969 Dunn Road anytime between now and Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The coloring pages will be judged according to grade level divisions.

All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The winners will be notified on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

Children attending Halloween Happenings on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Hazelwood Community Center can work on their coloring pages in the Arts & Crafts Room and turn them in that evening. The selected contest winners will receive a Halloween bag filled with coloring supplies, paper pad, markers, crayons, and colored pencils. They can redeem their prizes at Civic Center East.

 

Florissant Hosts Halloween Eve Party for City Children

The City of Florissant will host a Halloween evening for a spooky, fun-filled evening on Oct. 31 at the James Eagan Center Children  ages 12 and under will get to show off their costumes while having fun playing games and winning prizes. Refreshments.
This event is co-sponsored by the Florissant Parks and Recreation Department and the Florissant Police Explorers Unit. Free Admission to Florissant residents.

Hazelwood Planning Halloween Happenings For Safe Fun

Parents looking for a safe and fun place to take their kids Halloween night should consider bringing them to Hazelwood’s Halloween Happenings at the Community Center, 1186 Teson Road, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In addition to a Halloween costume contest for all ages, there will be fun carnival games in the gym, a candy guess contest in the lounge and haunted meeting rooms to walk through and get scared.

The Halloween costume contest will be held for kids and adults in the following age groups: age 4 & under; ages 5-8 years; ages 9-12 years; and ages 13 & over. It begins at 7:20 p.m. with the age 4 & under group. Prizes will be awarded to the first-place winners of each age group. Then an overall grand prize winner will be selected from the first-place finalists.

Additionally, the Arts and Craft Room in the Hazelwood Community Center will be set up to allow kids to work on their entry for this year’s Halloween Coloring Page Contest. All entries must be turned in before the event ends. A panel of judges will review the coloring pages and select winners based on grade levels.

The winners will then be notified on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and their prizes redeemed at Civic Center East, 8969 Dunn Road. Hayrides will be offered, weather permitting.

 

Alton Halloween Parade Oct. 31

Alton, Ill celebrates Halloween in a big way. Each October 31, the town hosts a Halloween Parade with floats, costume characters, marching bands, and more. Often the participants show off their humor and creativity with unique entries in the parade. Candy and treats are passed out to children lining the parade route. The Alton Halloween Parade steps off at 7:3- pm at Broadway and Washington.
