Hazelwood Central Football Goes For Conference 6-Sweep Saturday

Hazelwood Central Football won their 19th consecutive Suburban XII Conference North Division Game Oct. 7 as the Hawks won 32-10 at Hazelwood West and won Hazelwood School District bragging rights for the sixth consecutive year..

Add 16 consecutive Suburban North Conference wins (2011-2013) and the Hawks have 35 consecutive league wins.

Saturday, October 14, at 1 p.m. Hazelwood Central goes for their 36th consecutive conference win and their sixth consecutive undisputed, undefeated conference title when the 7-1 Hawks, (4-0 in the Suburban XII North) host 5-2 Riverview Gardens (3-1 Suburban XII North). Central is also assured of playing at home Oct. 21 in the first round of Class Six, District Two (currently 41.95 points) and will likely play DeSmet Jesuit, a rematch of the Aug. 18 game won 28-13 by the Hawks at DeSmet.. The only way Hazelwood Central — ranked second in Class Six, District Two — can be a top seed is a win, wins by their four non-conference opponents, a CBC loss to St. John Vianney and CBC opponents losses, most play Friday,. Oct. 13.

RIVERVIEW GARDENS is coming off a 46-0 home shutout Oct. 7 over McCluer North, their fourth consecutive win, as Lawrence Johnson ran for three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Davion Evers, who also ran for two touchdowns. Riverview (currently 51.92 points) will host a first-round Class Four, District Three game Oct. 21 against University City St, Charles High or St. Dominic and can be assuring of a top seed with a win, wins by the Rams’ non-conference opponents or a Parkway Central loss Oct. 13 to Francis Howell Central.

HAZELWOOD WEST-McCLUER HIGH — Saturday at 1 p.m. the host Wildcats (4-3, 2-1) are coming off a loss at home to Hazelwood Central that snapped a three-game winning streak .Meanwhile, the Comets (2-6, 1-3) are on a three-game losing streak and are outscored by the Hazelwood Schools 107-0 including the Oct. 7 home finale 54-0 to Hazelwood East.

Hazelwood West (currently 31.68) could host St, Louis University High (25.93) Oct. 21 in the first round of Class Six, District Two, if both West and SLUH win but the Junior Bills need help. West will play at Rockwood-Marquette Oct 20 at 7 p.m. if the Mustangs (27.67) beat Lindbergh Friday or if SLUH loses because Marquette won at West 20-13 in overtime Sept.1. McCluer (34.52) will play Oct. 20 at Fort Zumwalt East in Class Four, District three.

HAZELWOOD EAST-McCLUER NORTH — Saturday, 1 p.m. at Gorzynski Field the Spartans (4-3, 1-2), coming off their most lopsided win of the year (54-0 over McCluer High) can assure themselves of their 41st consecutive season of finishing .500 or better with a win over the Stars (0-6. 0-4), which lost Oct. 7 at Riverview Gardens. Hazelwood East (currently 35.14) with a win will host Parkway South Oct. 21 in Class Five, District Two. McCluer North (13.94) will play Oct. 20 at CBC in Class Six, District Two.

   LUTHERAN NORTH, TRINITY CATHOLIC — Friday at 7 p.m. 7-0 Trinity hosts 2-6 St. Charles High while Saturday at 1 p.m. 8-0 Lutheran North visits 1-7 Normandy. On Oct 6, Trinity, with three pass interception returns for touchdowns, won 62-7 over visiting John Burroughs while Lutheran North, with two touchdowns each from Josh Hopkins and Donovan Marshall, shuts out visiting Breese (Ill.) Mater Dei 59-0. Lutheran North (63.36) and Trinity (55.96) will each have a first-round bye in Class Two, District Two since Northwest Academy of Law is a co-op to Sumner and they are too large to be in Class Two.
