Shrine Opens with Weekend Activities on April 18 & 19

A re-opening celebration of Old St. Ferdinand Shrine will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Sunday, April 19, from noon-5 p.m.

On Saturday, the Education Center will open and there will be a used book sale, shrine tours, Living History Reenactors weekend encampment, and a music festival. The entertainment schedule follows:

o 11 a.m.-noon, Combs Elementary School (church)
o noon-1 p.m., North County Jazz Band (outside rectory)
o 1-2 p.m., Music by Blue (schoolhouse)
o 2-3 p.m., The Irish Xiles (church)

McCluer North High School students are doing an archaeological dig and artifacts will be on display.

The schedule of events continue on Sunday, from noon-5 p.m. with the same activities as on Saturday except for the music festival. A gift shop will be open inside the rectory and outside on the campus grounds.

The Educational Center and Book Room will also reopen this weekend. The Center will house the weekly book fair with built in book shelves and with other areas of the room being used for people to come and learn about the North County area. This includes learning about the City of Florissant, about the history of westward expansion of the United States and to learn about the history of the Shrine.

Also available will be the St. Ferdinand archives dating back to 1789. There will be a grand opening of the Center.

Parking will be available on the Knights of Columbus Grounds (Washington Street entrance). Additional parking will be on St. Charles and adjoining streets.
