High School Softball road to the Oct. 20-21 State Tournaments, at Killian Sports Complex in Springfield started Wednesday, Oct. 4 ,with districts, which end Friday, Oct. 6. After districts, the sectionals will follow Oct. 11 at odd-numbered districts followed Oct 14 with quarterfinals at sites to be determined.
Districts for teams begin Thursday, Oct. 5. That includes top seeds Hazelwood West High School and Incarnate Word.
Hazelwood West hosts Class Four, District Six and will host McCluer or Hazelwood East Thursday at 4:15. That same day and time second-seeded McCluer North hosts third-seeded Hazelwood Central. Thursday’s winners play in the district final Friday, 4:15 at Hazelwood West.
Clayton’s Shaw Park will be the site of Class Three, District Six and top-seeded Incarnate Word plays University City or Jennings at 4 p.m. followed at 5:45 when tourney host Clayton takes on second-seeded McCluer South-Berkeley. Thursday’s winners play at 4:15 Friday.
TRINITY CATHOLIC played Lutheran St. Charles County Wednesday in Elsberry, tournament host of Class Two, District Six. Top-seeded Bowling Green plays Trinity or Lutheran St. Charles Thursday at 4:30 followed at 6:16 when second-seeded Elsberry meets Duchesne or Wright City. Thursday’s winners play at 4:30 Friday.
District Six winners play at District Five winners Oct. 11.
GIRLS TENNIS — McCLUER NORTH won Class Two, District Six with wins over Hazelwood East (by forfeit) and Hazelwood Central (5-1). McCluer North plays Saturday, Oct. 7, against Lake St. Louis-based Liberty in the sectional at Columbia-Rock Bridge, which meets Parkway North. Winning district titles for McCluer North are singles player Saniah Jamielah Savala and the doubles team of Scarlett Madrid and Kelsey Gallagher.
INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY won Class One, District Five, winning 5-0 over University City and Clayton. IWA play at Palmyra Saturday, which also includes Mary Institute-Country Day School and St. Dominic. The IWA doubles team of Maria Brandt and Elizabeth Goldstein won Class One, District Five.
The State Championships, at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, are Oct. 19 (team), 20-21 (singles and doubles).
