Lutheran North, Trinity Catholic on A Nov. 3 Football Collision Course

Lutheran High School North, which has made 5401 Lucas and Hunt Rd home since 1965 after moving from Lake Avenue and Waterman Boulevard (1946-1965), has enjoyed Missouri State High School Activities Association championship success since football won the first of five state titles (14 overall in all sports) in 1981.
Trinity Catholic High School—located on 1720 Redman Rd since 2003 (the site of the former Rosary High 1961-2003) as a result of a merger of St. Thomas Aquinas (1954-2003), Mercy (1948-1985, merged with Aquinas in 1985) and Rosary — has no MSHSAA titles since the merger. Prior to that Aquinas-Mercy has won 13 MSASAA tittles, 12 in boys (11) and girls soccer combined, 3 including 2 boys soccer titles before the merger. Rosary had won eight titles, 6 of the MSHSAA sanctioned including five boys soccer titles
Now that football has gone through five weeks and October is still over a week away the talk may begin, albeit too soon, about a potential Class Two, District Two final showdown on Nov. 3, now that Lutheran North has lights at Lamothe Field. However, there are still four more weeks of scheduled games.
Lutheran North, 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Metro League, hosts Lutheran High School South (3-2, 2-1) Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. then visits St. Louis Priory Sept. 30 to wrap up Metro League play. In October, the Crusaders welcome Mater Dei from Breese (Ill.) Oct. 6 then travels south to Normandy High Oct. 14.
Trinity Catholic, 4-0 and 2-0 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division, goes on the road Friday, 7 p.m. to St. Peters for the AAA Small finale against Lutheran St. Charles County (3-2, 1-1) and Sept. 29 to Columbia to play Fr. Tolton Regional Catholic, the newest AAA member. The Titans are home in October welcoming John Burroughs Oct. 6 and hosts St. Charles High Oct. 13.
With only six teams in Class Two, District Two, Lutheran North and Trinity may have byes Oct. 20. Therefore, they may start districts at home with the Oct. 27 semifinals. Win that and they will meet Nov. 3.
Lutheran North has wins over Evansville, Ind., Mater Dei (39-18), Orchard Farm (79-13), Westminster (59-17), Mary Institute Country Day School (56-7) and John Burroughs (82-14). Between taking the first week off and winning 13-0 by forfeit last week over Bishop DuBourg Trinity has shut outs over Duchesne (45-0), Cardinal Ritter (57-0) and O’Fallon (Mo.) Christian (66-0).
Lutheran North set the school record for most points scored twice. First the Crusaders 79 points over Orchard Farm broke a previous record of 72 points set several times. Last weekend Lutheran North reset their record by scoring 82 points at John Burroughs. Of the 168 points Trinity has scored on the field 146 were in the first half.
Leading the way for the Lutheran North offense are Donovan Marshall, 616 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns, and Canaan Brooks, 580 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. Trinity quarterback leads the way for the Titans completing 77.5 percent of his passes for 808 yards and 11 touchdowns. Three Lutheran North defenders — Isaiah Azubuike, Ronnie Perkins and Devin Ruffin — each have 29 total tackles while Trinity’s Shammond Cooper has 24.
SUBURBAN XII CONFERENCE NORTH DIVISION — Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. Hazelwood East (2-2 overall, 0-1 Suburban XII North) is at Riverview Gardens (3-2, 1-1), Hazelwood West (2-2, 1-0) is at McCluer North (0-5, 0-2) and McCluer High (2-3, 1-1) is at Hazelwood Central (4-1, 2-0). On Sept 29 at 7 p.m., Hazelwood East visits Rockwood-Summit while Hazelwood West plays Fox High in Arnold. On Sept. 30 at 1 p.m., Hazelwood Central hosts Pattonville, McCluer High hosts Northwest Cedar Hill, McCluer North hosts Eureka and Riverview Gardens welcomes Seckman from Imperial.
TWO WEEKS AGO – Hazelwood Central, with three Raphael Bell Touchdowns, won at Hazelwood East 32-8. Hazelwood West, on a 37-yard Darius Cooper to Vicario Upchurch fourth-quarter touchdown pass, defeated visiting Riverview Gardens 41-38. In addition, McCluer High won 14-9 at McCluer North.
SEPTEMBER 18 — Hazelwood Central, with four first-half touchdown passes from John Harrison Jr., routed visiting McCluer North 58-0. Meanwhile, Riverview Gardens, with six touchdowns from Lawrence Johnson, (four passing, two running) won 48-28 at McCluer.
