Alpha Players 59th Season Kicks off with Into the Woods

into the woodsThe Alpha Players have announced a 59th season that incorporates the new with the old – the musical Into the Woods, followed by The Odd Couple and finishing with You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

The season opens Oct. 6 with the critically acclaimed musical Into the Woods. It is the story of a combination of fairy tales, with a twist! With characters taken from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” and “Cinderella,” as well as several others, it is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family.

In this musical, interactions with other characters help determine the consequences of certain characters’ wishes and quests. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by James Lapine, you will want to see if your wishes could come true! Performances will be Oct. 6, 7, 13, 14 and 15.

The second show of the season will be Neil Simon’s classic, The Odd Couple. It has been performed by many companies, in many cities, but still captivates, with the struggle between an inveterate slob, and his friendship with a neatnik!

Tensions mount as Felix, newly separated, moves in with Oscar, his long-time friend. Will Felix help Oscar clean up his act, or will the relationship result in another tragic ending? Show dates are March 16, 17, 23, 24 and 25, 2018.

The final show of the season is You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, a 1967 musical comedy with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip “Peanuts.”

Follow the antics of well known and beloved characters Linus, Lucy, Snoopy, Schroeder, and of course, Charlie Brown, through a typical day. The music will have you humming familiar tunes that you may have forgotten, but loved so well!

Performances will be May 18, 19, 25, 26 and 27, 2018.

Season tickets are now on sale. All performances are at the Florissant Civic Center Theater (Parker & Waterford Roads).
