Chamber Will Honor Rich Henefer April 16 as Business Person of the Year

The North County business community will honor Richard Henefer, one of the long-standing outstanding citizens and businessmen of Florissant, next week.

The Greater North County Chamber of Commerce will honor Richard Henefer, of Don Henefer Jewelers, as the 2009 Business Person of the Year at a ceremony on Thursday, April 16 at Norwood Hills Country Club, One Norwood Hills Country Club Dr., from 6 to 10 p.m.

Henefer, owner of Don Henefer Jewelers, always believed that a business should be run in an ethical and honest way. He has proven this in his nearly 50 years as a jeweler. Pride, workmanship and honesty are the words that have made Don Henefer Jewelers the “neighborhood” jewelry store in North County.

Richard graduated from Christian Brothers’ College Military High School and attained certificates in Jewelry Design and Diamond Setting from the Paris Institute of Jewelry Technologies.

He joined the family business in 1963, when Don Henefer Jewelers was located in Normandy. After the death of his father in 1970, Richard moved the store to its present location at 512 N. New Florissant Rd. He worked very hard to make the business successful.

Along with building his business, Richard has an active role in the community and charitable organizations. He has supported hundred of organizations over his years in business. It is his belief to give back to the community that has supported him. Most of his charitable contributions though are given in a behind the scenes manner, with the recipients never knowing where the kindness has come from. If a local charitable group was having a fund-raiser, you could county on Rich Henefer for a donation. “Richard always gave back to the community,” said Lora Click of Click heating & Cooling. If a charity waas having a fund-raiser, Richard would donate jewelry or other items.

Henefer joined the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce, formerly Florissant Valley Chamber, in 1972. He is currently serving as a member of the chamber board of directors. He is also a member of the Ferguson Rotary Club. Both organizations have allowed Richard to give back to the community.

Richard and his wife have enjoyed living in the Old Town of Florissant. They live in a vertical log home built in 1790 that is the oldest home of its type in St. Louis County. Richard has two children who were raised in the Florissant community.

“I owe all that I am or ever shall be to my parents, my education from Christian Brothers’ College Military High School, the ethics I learned from many business associates and those that are close to me.” He said.
