Prep Girls Soccer: Hazelwood Central Take Second to Pattonville in North County Tournament

Pattonville won the North County Girls Soccer Tournament, formerly known as the Suburban North Conference Tournament while Hazelwood Central was second, Hazelwood West was third followed by Ritenour, McCluer North, McCluer, Riverview Gardens and Hazelwood East.

Pattonville, 4-0 prior to April 6, defeated Hazelwood East, 12-0 March 30, Ritenour, 6-0 April 1, and Hazelwood Central, 3-2 in overtime April 3. Pattonville hosted Hazelwood Central April 8 in a Suburban North contest. HAZELWOOD EAST has not scored in their first four games.

Hazelwood Central was the only team prior to April 6 to score on Pattonville thanks to goals by Lisa Wren and Tevar Dildy but Candis Clark’s second goal of the game was the Pirate game-winner in overtime.

“We came out on the wrong side in overtime,” said head coach Patrick Rocco. However the Hawks, 4-3 prior to their rematch with Pattonville, “came out flat,” in an April 4 home loss to Fort Zumwalt South, 2-1 with Danielle Bergfeld scoring on a second half penalty kick. Prior to the two losses the Hawks defeated McCluer North 2-1 on penalty kicks on March 30, as Claire Conwell-Vargas scored in the second half, then defeated Hazelwood West, 1-0 on April 1 a team Rocco said the Hawks were lucky to beat thanks to a second half Wren goal.

HAZELWOOD WEST, prior to losing to Hazelwood Central, defeated Riverview Gardens, 9-0 on March 30, and after losing to Central defeated Ritenour, 5-0. Against Riverview Ashley Geist and Mariah Gove each scored twice, Suzy Ryan had three assists and Jennifer Morris had two assists. Against Ritenour, a team the Wildcats had a rematch April 8, five players scored for West, 5-2 prior to playing McCluer on April 6, while Ryan had two assists.

McCLUER NORTH rebounded from the loss to Hazelwood Central by defeating Riverview Gardens, 10-0 April 1, and McCluer, 3-0 April 3. The Stars were 4-2
prior to the April 6 game against Parkway West and an April 8 rematch with Riverview. Nikki Morales scored against Central while against Riverview, called in the 66th minute due to the 10-goal rule, Emily Hibbits and Erin Weilmuenster each scored three goals, Valerie Jennerjohn scored twice, Kelsey Necker had three assists and Jessica Meierotto had two assists. Against McCluer Lexi Cech, Rachel Franck and Sam Jones scored for the Stars.

McCLUER, after their 2-0 loss to Ritenour March 30 and before their loss to McCluer North, defeated Hazelwood East, 8-0 on April 1. RIVERVIEW GARDENS not only defeated Hazelwood East, 2-0 on April 3 but also defeated former Suburban North rival Normandy, 3-0 on March 30 in a non tourney game.
