Destiny Davis of Ferguson, Missouri, has been named a 2017 Citi Foundation Entrepreneurship Fellow, a summer leadership development and internship program for Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) alumni, selected through a competitive application process. Citi Foundation Entrepreneurship Fellows serve as role models to young people in NFTE summer programs and demonstrate how the entrepreneurial mindset can serve them in giving back to their communities, while supporting their educational and career paths.

Destiny Davis, NFTE Citi Foundation Entrepreneurship Fellow in St. Louis, started on her journey with NFTE during her junior year at McCluer High School where she created a business plan for her company, DestinTees Custom Tees & Apparel.  She competed in the NFTE business plan competition and went all the way to the national competition in New York City.  Destiny says that NFTE taught her how to network, strengthen her presentation and public speaking skills, and how to market her company.  Above all, she feels that NFTE provided her with amazing opportunities. This summer, Destiny will be a mentor at the St. Louis Metro BizCamp.

NFTE BizCamps are offered free of charge to students, ages 13 to 18, from under-resourced communities. Boys & Girls Club is the St. Louis community partner, and BizCamp is sponsored by Citi Foundation.

Teenagers will learn how to develop their entrepreneurial mindset, the way entrepreneurs recognize opportunities and overcome obstacles.  Students are challenged to create ambitious yet practical plans and encouraged to use their entrepreneurial mindset to dream big and know they can accomplish anything.  BizCamp activities include the NFTE curriculum covering topics such as return on investment, supply and demand, opportunity recognition and marketing.  Guest speakers include business professionals who bring the outside world to the BizCamp setting, and field trips include meetings with entrepreneurs at their workplace.

Nnfte_logonotagheaderFTE BizCamps are supported by the Citi Foundation as part of its Pathways to Progress global expansion to prepare urban youth for today’s competitive job market. Thousands of students participate in this initiative led by the Citi Foundation designed to help young people become career-ready through first jobs, internships and leadership and entrepreneurship training.

Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) is an international nonprofit that activates the entrepreneurial mindset in young people and builds their knowledge about business startup. Students acquire the entrepreneurial mindset (e.g., innovation, self-reliance, comfort with risk), alongside business, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), and presentation skills—equipping them to drive their best futures in the 21st Century. NFTE focuses its work on under-resourced communities, with programs in 22 locations in 9 countries.
