North County Christian School is going through a trial period as one of 17 high schools listed as affiliate registered schools by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

NCCS, with a unofficial, unadjusted (1.35 according to the MSHSAA) enrollment of 125 high school students, has a boys basketball team with a record of 14-0, 4-0 in the TRCAA,. Included with their start is a first place finish in a tournament held Dec. 1-5, 2008 at the Christian Academy of Greater St. Louis. NCCS has two wins each over Christian Fellowship, Yeshiva, Faith Community Christian, West County Home School, and CAGSL, whom they beat at NCCS last Friday 55-49 and will meet again Jan. 27 at CAGSL.

Prior to Jan. 19 NCCS has allowed over 50 points in only one game, has allowed less than 38 points per game and has scored just over 55 per game. Kyle Walton, an NCCS graduate and now the school’s head coach, said “our goal was to keep opponents under 50 points in each game. We focused a lot on defense.”

The Crusaders have only four seniors on the roster, three of them have been the leading scorers and leading rebounders prior to Jan. 19. Ronald Dukes has averaged 10.5 points and 7.2 rebounds while blocking 23 shots. Justin Worth leads in scoring with 12.1 points per game has averaged 4.1 rebounds per game and has 40 assists while Tim Hancock has averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Also junior Tyler Bolton leads the Crusaders in steals with 38 prior to Jan. 19. “I’m extremely pleased with their efforts,” Walton said.
