Republic Services Expand Service in Hazelwood

Hazelwood’s New Contract with Republic Offers Improved Bulk Waste Service

With the new contract negotiated between the City of Hazelwood and Republic Services, local residents are coming out ahead with improved services for bulk waste pick-ups. Instead of being limited to just two bulk waste collection pick-ups free of charge for the whole year, Hazelwood citizens can now have as many as they need as long as they call two days in advance to schedule them. There is a two-item limit for each pick-up with a weight limit of 80-pounds.

Republic Services’ slogan is, “We’ll handle it from here.” Republic officials know residents don’t always have the time or ability to dispose of their large, bulk waste items. So they view it as their job to dispose of bulk trash, so residents don’t have to worry about it. Here are some of the advantages of using Republic’s bulk waste service: Republic comes at the resident’s convenience, works to recycle responsibly and can remove bulk items, such as furniture and appliances.

Definition of Waste Items

Bulk waste includes items that are typically too large to be disposed of in residents’ regular Republic Services trash cart. Couches, lamps, rugs, mattresses and large appliances without freon are a few to mention. Other items considered bulky trash include swing sets that have been dismantled, large toys, refrigerators, stoves/ranges, washers, dryers, freezers, microwaves, dishwashers, and household trash compactors. On these large appliances,

Republic requires the doors to be removed. For mattresses, Republic advises wrapping them in plastic for safe and efficient disposal. And furniture should be kept assembled.

Residents must call Republic’s Customer Service Hotline at (636) 947-5959 at least two days in advance to schedule a bulk waste pick-up. During the phone call, the pick-up date will be confirmed and residents will be advised of any applicable charges or limits. The bulk waste items should be placed at the curb, near the edge of driveway, by 6:30 a.m. on the pick-up day. As stated earlier, there is an 80-pound weight limit.

Republic’s free bulk service doesn’t include E-waste such as TV/Computers/Monitors/DVD players, etc. There is an additional recycle charge for these items. For instance, it will cost $75 to have a TV, CRT or any other E-waste item picked up.   There is also a $25 fee per item for major appliances/white goods. These new contract arrangements supercede the previous scheduled June bulk waste collection.
