Northwinds Concert Band’s ‘Sunday at the Pops’ Oct. 23

Northwinds Concert Band, under the direction of Larry Marsh, will present a “Sunday at the Pops” concert on October 23, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Florissant Civic Center Theatre. Tickets are $8, $6, and may be reserved by calling the box office at (314) 921-5678.

The Sunday concert will feature guest performers and conductors. Marsh will share the podium with some of the fine music educators who play in the band. Marc Strathman will conduct exciting music from “Doctor Who,” and Hadley Haux brings you fun music from “Beetlejuice.” Veteran musical director Joseph Paule, Sr. will lead a lovely medley from “The King and I.”

Principal French hornist, Rick Slonim, takes the helm as the band performs one of his own compositions.

Marsh, who has led the Northwinds ensemble for over thirty years, notes that he is very happy to share conducting duties for this special concert. “I am especially pleased that Linton Luetje, who founded Northwinds in the early 70s and who continues to play tuba in the band, will lead the ensemble in a rousing version of “On the Mall,” a classic march by Edwin Franko Goldman! “I hope many of his former McCluer North students will some out to honor Linton, who has shared his talents with North County students and audiences for over 50 years,” said Marsh.

As an added treat, Northwinds will be joined by bagpipers Wayne Davis, Christian Rhoads and Laurie Hartung from the St. Louis Caledonian Pipe Band. Christian is a bagpipe boy wonder who has won numerous regional competitions and has been also been invited to participate in upcoming international competitions.

Marsh will be on the podium with more music from film and Broadway, pop tunes and big band sounds. Northwinds is a program of Ferguson-Florissant’s Marketing and Communications Department. For more information visit: www.northwindsband.org.
