Hazelwood Central, West Top 2 Class 5, District 6 Baseball Seeds

Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West are the top two seeds in the Class Five, District Six Baseball Tournament which begins Saturday (May 14) at West but both the Hawks and Wildcats have a first-round bye and each will host semifinal games May 16.

Saturday at 10 a.m. third-seeded McCluer North takes on sixth-seeded Hazelwood East with the winner returning to Hazelwood West May 16 to take on the second seed and host Wildcats at 4:15. Three hours later on Saturday (1 p.m.) fourth-seeded Ritenour battles fifth-seeded McCluer at West with the winner going to Hazelwood Central May 16 for a 4:15 game against the top-seeded Hawks.

Winners will play May 18, 4:15 at Hazelwood West for the right to host a May 24 Sectional game, time TBD, against the District Five Champion.

The Class Five Quarterfinal game is May 26, site and time TBD with the winner playing June 2-3 for the Class Five State Championship at CarShield Field (formerly T.R. Hughes Ballpark), O’Fallon, Mo. The Semifinal is June 2, 7 p.m. while on June 3 the third-place game is at 10:30 a.m. while the Championship game is at 1:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

Hazelwood Central has won 19 in a row before losing three in a row including a May 7 doubleheader loss at Francis Howell North (2-1, 8-2) while Hazelwood West was 13-10 prior playing May 9 at Seckman and May 10 against visiting Pattonville. Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West each have one loss in the Suburban XII Conference North Division prior to May 10 as the two teams split, each other winning at home.

Hazelwood Central won 2-1 in nine innings on April 28 while Hazelwood West won 6-2 on May 6 (rescheduled from April 26).

Hazelwood Central (7-1 Suburban XII North prior to May 10) has two games this week against McCluer North — May 10 at Central and Thursday, May 12, 4 p.m., at McCluer North (rescheduled from April 12). Hazelwood Central also played Liberty May 11 in Lake St. Louis. Hazelwood West was 8-1 in the Suburban XII North prior to hosting Hazelwood East on May 11.

   CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT SIX — North Technical, in its third year of having baseball, is seeded sixth and will play 4:30 Friday (May 13) at third-seeded Riverview Gardens, the only game not played at Orchard Farm, who is the number four seed taking on fifth-seeded McCluer South-Berkeley Friday at 4:30. Saturday at Orchard Farm second-seeded Duchesne plays North Tech or Riverview Gardens at 10 a.m. while top-seeded St. Charles plays Orchard Farm or McCluer South-Berkeley at 1 p.m. Saturday’s winners return to Orchard Farm May 16 for a 4:30 district title game for the right to host the Class Four, District Five champion on May 24.

The Class Four Quarterfinal game is May 26, site and time TBD while the state tournament is June 3-4 at CarShield Field. The Semifinal is June 3 at 7 p.m. while on June 4 the State Baseball Championships conclude June 4 with the Class Four third-place game at 10:30 a.m. and the Class Four title game is at 1 p.m. (weather permitting).

   CLASS THREE, DISTRICT FIVE — Lutheran North is the tourney host as well as the top-seed and will play May 16, 4 p.m. against the winner of Friday’s 4 p.m. game between fourth-seeded Cardinal Ritter and fifth-seeded Northwest Academy of Law. Also May 16 at 4 p.m. fourth-seeded Trinity Catholic plays Metro at Cool Papa Bell Stadium, Kingshighway at Interstate 70, St. Louis. The May 16 winners play at Lutheran North May 17, 4 p.m. and the district champion plays in the May 23 Sectional at the winner of District Six.

The Class Three Quarterfinal game is May 25, site and time TBD while the state tournament is June 1-2 at CarShield Field. The Semifinal is June 1 at 7 p.m. while on June 2 the third place game is at 10:30 a.m. and the championship game is at 1:30 (weather permitting).
