Mayor Robert Lowery Wins Re-Election

Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery won re-election for a third term with a 57.7% to 42.3% victory over political newcomer Andrew Podleski in Tuesday’s mayor’s race.

Mayor Lowery garnered 4400 votes to Podleski’s 3,226 in what has to be considered a light turnout for a race of this statue. Only 7,708 votes were cast (seven write-in votes) out of 34,232 registered voters. Storms rolling through the
area Tuesday morning could have effected the turnout.

Lowery was pleased that he was re-elected and thanked all his campaign workers and supporters. ‘They did a great job.” The mayor said it will be great now to “totally concentrate on doing the city’s business and not have to think about the campaign.”

Podleski felt he didn’t have the name recognition or campaign contributions. Podleski said if he had started his campaign earlier it could have made a difference. “It’s hard to beat an incumbent in a race like this, especially being out-spent by a 10-to-1 margin.”

In other election results in this small election ballot this year, incumbents for the Hazelwood School Board, Joseph Donahue and Carol Stroker, won easy re-election to new three-year terms.

In the Florisssant Valley Fire Protection District board race, Bob Carmack won a six-year board post easily, but Bose Bradford had a close race winning an expired two-year term for the director’s board post.
