Florissant Town Hall Meeting On Heroin, Prescription Abuse

On Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. the Florissant Police Department along with the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Addition (NCADA) St. Louis will host a town hall discussion on the heroin epidemic and prescription painkiller misuse that is affecting communities across the region. The event will be held at the James J. Eagan Civic Center Theatre, #1 Eagan Drive.

Included will be presentations by individuals who have been directly affected by drug use as well as presentations by law enforcement and drug treatment professionals. Resources will be available to participants concerning education, prevention and treatment for heroin and prescription drug problems.

Chief Timothy Lowery said, “The drug epidemic has affected every community in this region. The City of Florissant is taking a proactive step to try and prevent unnecessary deaths caused by drug addiction.”

Take Back Prescription Drug Day April 30

In conjunction with this town hall discussion, Florissant will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, Saturday April 30. The Florissant Police Department will collect any expired or unused prescription drugs in the Police Department lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All unused prescription drugs require proper disposal and should not be simply thrown away or flushed into the sewer system.
